Wow. I’ve been so lucky to have incredible couples my whole business career. Every single wedding I leave loving a personal or different aspect from each one. August 6th I photographed a wedding I had been looking forward to for quite some time. In my undergrad years I went to GVSU. I was pretty socially quiet because I was working 3 jobs, taking 18 credits and just was trying to get done with my double bachelor degree [and a minor as well]. I didn’t have time to really socialize or make friends. In my capstone for my advertising degree I was placed in a group with three other girls and a guy. We were forced to hang out to finish this big group project. I was in the beginning stages of my photography career and was delegated the photography and layout of our project. Those three girls were 3 out of the 6 that I actually stayed in contact with after we graduated, 2 of them I ended up photographing their weddings, and the 3rd would be Alana.
Last year Alana moved her engagement session with me back, since she selflessly gave up an organ for her mother and needed recovery time. When I say that Alana is a saint, I mean it. With no hesitation she saw that she could donate a kidney to her mom, and did it without any questions. Documenting that part of the relationship during this wedding was important to me, and both her parents know what a gem she is as a human and as a daughter.
During the engagement I got to meet Marco, saw how they complimented one another and Alana and I bonded of Taylor Swift as she handed me a card and a wine bottle that looked like the birds from her ‘You need to calm down’ video ‘tattooed’ on her back. I still have this bottle [lol]. I understand I am writing a bit more than usual on a blog, but I have watched Alana over the last 8 years just grow into an incredible human being who I am so honored to know, and to work for.
This entire wedding was one of celebration and family. And I hope you can feel just as much through these images.
